Former soldiers Freddie (Akshay Kumar) and Rocky (Tiger Shroff) are called back into service when a key Indian security post is stolen by a mad scientist who was once their friend. This globe-trotting action spectacle has a silly atmosphere – embodied by Alaya F’s mad professor Dr. Pam – that is fun if you’re willing to leave your brain at the door. The large-scale action sequences in director Ali Abbas Zafar’s (Jogi) film are a bit uneven, but the fight scenes are consistently good. Fans of explosions will be pleased with the volume, the Bath Miyan Chote MiyanAdditional language options can be selected in the film’s audio menu.

LSD2 (2024)

Language: Hindi
Duration: 119 minutes
Director: Dibakar Banerjee

Genre: Anthology, Drama | Added to Netflix: 13 June

LSD 2: Love, Sex and Dhokha 2 is a spiritual sequel to the 2010 film by director Dibakar Banerjee Love Sex in Dhokha. Like the original, the sequel is an anthology of three loosely connected short stories, each around 40 minutes long. The film begins with a story about a controversial reality show contestant, followed by the aftermath of a trans woman’s assault on her way home from work, and ends with the story of a Twitch streamer who gets hacked by deepfake porn. All three explore contemporary digital life and its intersections with the sphere of entertainment, using things like YouTube clips, news broadcasts, and webcam footage to tell the stories. It makes for a harrowing visual and narrative presentation that may not be to everyone’s taste.

Maharaja (2024) N

Languages: Hindi, English and 10 more
Duration: 131 minutes
Director: Siddharth P. Malhotra
Pour: Junaid Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey
Genre: Based on a true story, historical drama | Added to Netflix: June 21st

The release of Netflix’s new Hindi original film about a significant historical court case has, ironically, been delayed by a week by a court order. Maharaja tells the story of social reformer and journalist Karsandas Mulji, who in 1862 reported sexual abuse by the leader of his religious sect. The sect leader sued Mulji for libel, and the outcome of the case set an important precedent in India. The current members of the sect wanted to prevent the publication of Maharaja — based largely on Saurabh Shah’s 2013 book of the same name — but a judge ruled that there was “nothing objectionable” about the film. The film’s audio menu allows for nearly a dozen additional dialogue options to be selected, including descriptive audio tracks in Hindi, Portuguese (Brazil) and Spanish (Latin America).

Bhaje Vaayu Vegam (2024)

Two brothers from a village near Hyderabad desperately need money to save their ailing father’s life. With only 24 hours to raise the necessary funds, they head to the big city and join forces with dangerous men who lie, cheat and steal and persuade the brothers to do the same. Soon the father is no longer the only family member fighting for his life.

After two seasons of preparing the students of a coaching centre in Kota for the entrance exam for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), it is finally time for the exam!
