How far would you go to save someone you love? For most of us, the answer is clear: we would go to the ends of the earth. However, this human desire has limits. But what if you had superpowers? The possibilities and limits you could reach would be nearly endless. We all know the saying “with great power comes great responsibility,” but rules are made to be broken when the life of a loved one is at stake. This fascinating concept is what drives Netflix’s latest superhero series. Supacellnow available to stream.

Supacell is the brainchild of Rapmanthe creative mind behind Shiro’s story And Blue History. (Warning: Light spoiler by Netflix Supacell can be found below!)

Possible future prospects and evolving forces in Netflix Supacell

When I think of a word for Michael (Tosin Cole), it’s normal; so average that he’s practically boring. Working as a delivery driver for a company keeps him busy, but that doesn’t stop him from taking care of his mother, who has sickle cell anemia. He is also obsessed with his girlfriend Dionne (Adelaide Adelaide), does everything he can to give her the world, including an engagement ring and a promise for eternity. At this point of ultimate happiness, his life is turned upside down, starting with bright yellow eyes.

As yellow flashes in his pupils, he teleports out of the moment he is currently living in, which is quite unexpected for him. Michael has not shown any powers up to this point in his adult life, so why has he developed them now? Although the answer is unclear, his ability to travel through time and space confronts him with a terrifying future.

Dionne’s death is imminent, and he is not far enough from Michael’s present. Not only that, he finds his future self fighting alongside four people he has never met in his life, all of whom also have superpowers. Michael is brought back to the present and sets out on a journey to find the other heroes from his future and prevent his partner’s death before it happens.

In the current story, the audience learns more about the other heroes, who all one day develop powers they did not have before. Michael’s newest heroes in South London are joined by Sabrina (Nadine Mills), a nurse with terrible taste in men, whose life is intertwined with that of her sisters Andre (Eric Kofi-Abrefa), an ex-convict whose only goal in life is to find stability for himself and his teenage son Rodney, with whom he tries to build a relationship (Calvin Demba), a simple weed dealer who doesn’t have much to offer, and Tazer (Josh Tedeku), the leader of a gang.

All five black South Londoners seem to be struggling in some aspect of their lives, and their problems are only made worse by the introduction of their powers. Can Michael gather them all together in time and form them into a team to save Dionne? Or is the death and destruction he has seen in the future preordained anyway? To get these answers, you’ll have to watch all six episodes of. Supacell.

A slow start for Rapman’s latest project

I was incredibly excited for Supacell before I actually watched it for many reasons. I remember scrolling through the Netflix media website and the poster of this new superhero series immediately caught my attention. I immediately recognized Tosin Coles face, which was not surprising since I loved him in Doctor Whobut what struck me were the bright yellow eyes staring back at me. It’s striking, and all that’s written on the poster is the name of the show.

I didn’t need to see a trailer to know I wanted to see it because the concept alone and that simple image was enough to grab my attention, and I’m sure it will for a lot of people. I’m a fan of comic book shows, so this seemed right up my alley.

Unfortunately, the first four episodes of Supacell felt more like a tedious slog than an enjoyable superhero romp. A lot of that is due to the need to understand and explore each character in depth, which gives the bigger picture more meaning and significance. Because of this, these first few episodes focus on exposition rather than moving the story forward. It felt like we were sitting there with the characters rather than letting the story speak for them.

Some shows work well with this idea and I have enjoyed this type of series in the past, but it is not necessarily well suited to Supacell. I really wanted to like the series but found it boring most of the time and even as I write this article I have had to go back and rewatch parts of it to remember what happened. In short, Supacell is boring and unmemorable compared to the superhero shows and movies currently available, but it has the potential to be something extraordinary. The wasted potential in the first four episodes was the most annoying thing, because the concept is there, but the tension is lacking.

The talent in Supacell is super strong

Supacells Salvation lies in the performance of its stars. Led by Tosin Colethe entire cast is full of talent and creates fascinating characters that carry the show. The series is full of personalities and relationships, perfect for psychology enthusiasts. Cole is fantastic as Michael, a man overcome with panic and fear when he learns that his girlfriend is doomed. This is completely understandable, as any of us would have become understandable if we had learned this information. He also uses this knowledge to his advantage; he can prevent it if he gathers the heroes and comes up with a plan. Cole brings incredible dignity to his character, making him relatable and impactful to the story.

Sabrina, played by Nadine Millswas the most interesting character in Supacell. Sabrina has worked hard to become a nurse after years of intensive training and selfless service to the public, but is constantly treated unkindly because of the color of her skin. As a result, Sabrina grows a righteous anger that she tries to keep under control. It becomes increasingly difficult to keep under control as her powers develop, giving her an interesting struggle.

Supacell may not be worth your time

Despite the great acting and interesting characters, I was still waiting for something from Supacell to grab my attention. The pacing of the series largely ruined the entertainment value as you had to slog through the first four episodes to get to the end. In my opinion, many other superhero series do the same Supacell Try to do this on a bigger and better scale.
