Elvis Presley may have left the building, but his blue suede shoes are not.

Presley’s blue suede shoes were auctioned at British auction house Henry Aldridge and Son Ltd with a starting bid of £55,000, which, according to the auction listing, equates to US$69,654.20.

According to GMA, the shoes fetched over $150,000 at an auction on Friday.

The lot “simply transcends 20th century pop culture,” the auction listing said.

Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge said: “The price, for me, reflects the significance of such an iconic object.” He added: “The sale of the shoes reflects the iconic nature and enduring fascination with Elvis.”

According to Henry Aldridge and Son Ltd., Presley not only named his 1956 hit “Blue Suede Shoes” after his actual footwear, but also wore the shoes on and off stage.

“There is a lot of history in these worn blue suede shoes associated with the name Elvis Presley,” the listing said.

During his 1956 appearance on The Steve Allen Show, Presley wore the shoes while singing ‘I Want You, I Need You, I Love You’ and ‘Hound Dog,’ said Henry Aldridge and Son Ltd.

“The shoes have a complete lineage,” the listing states. The shoes were given to Alan Fortas, a close friend of Elvis, before Presley joined the Army in 1958.

In addition to the shoes, the lot included three documents of authenticity, including a letter of authenticity signed by Jimmy Velvet, a friend of Elvis, a certificate of authenticity from the Elvis Presley Museum, also signed by Jimmy Velvet, and a letter from Alan Fortas.
