The Script make a surprise appearance at a famous pub in Glasgow after their performance at Hampden

The Script made a surprise appearance at a famous Glasgow bar last night, just hours after performing at Hampden supporting P!nk on her Summer Carnival world tour.

The Irish rock band arrived at the Clutha Bar on Stockwell Street late on Saturday night and treated staff and customers to an intimate acoustic concert.

Frontman Danny O’Donoghue and Glen Power, normally the band’s drummer, took to the small stage of the city centre bar with their guitars to play some of The Script’s biggest hits, including The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, For The First Time and Hall of Fame.

The Script have since uploaded footage of Danny and Glen performing the band’s hit single “For The First Time” at The Clutha to their Instagram stories, tagging the Glasgow bar in the video.

Just a few hours earlier, they had opened for American pop star P!nk on her two-night run at Hampden, where Danny took the stage in a traditional green, blue and red tartan kilt, much to the delight of his fans.

Although their unexpected appearance must have come as a shock to patrons at the pub, Danny O’Donoghue, frontman of The Script, is said to have hinted that they would be heading to the city centre bar “to keep the party going” after receiving an incredible response at Hampden.

He said: “Glasgow, you never cease to amaze us. Perhaps we should continue the evening at the Clutha Pub and play a few songs.”

Their performance also surprised disco cover band Mothership, who played in the pub before the Irish rock stars appeared at around 11:30 p.m.

According to lead singer Lily McColm, she and her bandmates were told to be ready promptly at 11am before their own performance to make way for The Script’s acoustic performance immediately afterwards.

However, Lily didn’t seem to mind at all, as she told the Record that she liked the Irish rock band’s music and that it was “really good” live.

The singer revealed that she had been told earlier that evening that The Script were going to play at a pub in Glasgow and that she had chosen to perform at the Clutha, but had been asked to keep it secret.

Lily also praised their performance, saying: “It was really impressive that they can play in an arena of this size and then come to a cosy pub and still be just as good.”

Speaking about how they interacted with the small crowd afterward, she added: “Danny in particular took time for everyone and made sure everyone got a photo. He was really nice when I spoke to them.”

The audience also seemed very impressed by The Script’s surprise appearance, with one commenting: “They were brilliant, both at Hampden and The Clutha. Such cool guys, gave everyone plenty of time for photos.”

The Script will return to Glasgow later this year for their Satellites World Tour.

They are scheduled to perform at the OVO Hydro on November 26th alongside special guest Tom Walker. Tickets are available here.
