“Appreciate time and respect other people’s time,” says Vikram Somani at the FPJ felicitation ceremony

Vikram Somani, Chairman of VIP Industries Ltd, shared insights into the important decisions that have shaped his successful career. Speaking at a Free Press Journal event, Somani spoke about his journey from working in the family business to entering the corporate world.

“The decisions I made are difficult, especially the decision to leave the family business when I entered the job market,” Somani said. “It was very different from what I was used to. I was very happy working in the family business; everything felt natural. But in the corporate world, every problem requires a healthy discussion about the why, when, where and what. This taught me to make decisions. In the end, after considering everything and making a final decision, the mistakes I had made in my family business were the ones I had made.”

Advice for students

When asked what advice he would give to students, Somani stressed the importance of following your passions and valuing time. “I would say to students: do your own thing and follow your passions. Value your time and respect other people’s time. Once time is gone, it is gone forever. Use it well, respect your parents and be considerate of other people.”
