Deputies and SLED agents investigate Spartanburg County club after numerous complaints

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Department of Law Enforcement investigated a nightclub after numerous complaints from the public.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, officers have been called to Club Glow/Glow Lounge at 1441 Union Street 77 times in the past 12 months.

The complaints came from local business owners who reported alleged littering, after-hours alcohol sales, sexually oriented services and erotic dancing.

Since the beginning of the year, officers have been called out to the nightclub three times because of shootings.

Because of all these complaints, the Spartanburg County Ganty Unit partnered with SLED to inspect Club Grow.

Deputies and SLED agents arrived at the nightclub at 2:10 a.m. Friday to speak with the owner of the establishment.

When deputies and SLED agents arrived at the scene, staff locked the doors and refused them entry. Deputies said they were let in after several minutes of knocking.

Inside, the deputies and SLED agents saw open bottles of liquor on the tables, lots of money on the floor and women dressed “erotically”.

Deputies said that inside, it smelled not only of cigarette smoke, but also of marijuana.

The MPs began speaking to the women, who said they would undress for money.

Because of the sexual acts, deputies checked Spartanburg County, South Carolina code. Chapter 42 Health and Sanitation, Section 104-105, requires a facility to be located at least 1,000 feet from a church or school.

According to the sheriff’s office, Club Glow/Glow Lounge is 239 meters from Solid Rock Church.

“A sexually oriented business is required under Section 42-110 to
business for a sexually oriented business,” the incident report states.

As of Friday, there had been no applications for a permit for Club Grow.

Several arrest warrants were issued, including for private security violations and refusal of inspections or searches by ABC agents.

The sheriff’s office said it will forward its report to Spartanburg County Council for advice and to ensure that this location is classified as a nuisance under this ordinance.
