Media professionals meet in Los Angeles to raise awareness of climate action

The Hollywood Climate Summit, held this week in Los Angeles, aimed to raise awareness of the devastating impacts of climate change by educating and connecting media professionals across Hollywood.

Hollywood is considered one of the most powerful tools for spreading ideas. For the fifth year in a row, climate activists have brought together artists, writers, filmmakers and media professionals for the Hollywood Climate Summit.

“It’s that mix of celebrities and experts that we love so much. And ultimately, it’s about giving these leading climate experts and voices a greater voice, while also creating an entry point for senior talent to feel engaged and excited and realize that talking about climate doesn’t have to be scary. It really can be a part of our everyday lives,” said Ali Weinstein, co-founder of the Hollywood Climate Summit.

The four-day event, which concluded on Friday and was held at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills, aimed to raise awareness of climate action while providing a platform for the exchange of ideas, resources and expertise.

“How can we build community in the entertainment and media landscape while also building climate literacy by bringing grassroots climate activists together with media professionals so we can amplify their voices, understand their stories and better represent them in the media,” said Allison Begalman, another co-founder of the Hollywood Climate Summit.

The diverse programs included writing workshops, networking and film screenings on the topic of climate change.

Many companies committed to a transition to clean energy have taken this opportunity to reach all over Hollywood.

“We’re more of an educational institution. We educate industry professionals on what green tech can do, what the application process is like, how it can be used. We also distribute equipment while training technicians on how to use it and collecting data to show the studios and the various clients how the equipment works. And what positive impact it can have in terms of offsetting emissions and the like,” said Steve Yandrich, co-founder of Saniset Fleet.

The Hollywood Climate Summit originally began as an online event and has grown exponentially over the years, leveraging Hollywood’s central role and influence in the climate movement for a green future.
