How did Gwyneth Paltrow know that her marriage to Chris Martin was doomed?

Gwyneth Paltrow recalls the moment she realized her marriage was in trouble, a decade after divorcing Chris Martin

Gwyneth Paltrow recalled the revelation she felt when she learned her marriage to Chris Martin was over.

The Mirror reported on Saturday, June 29, that the 51-year-old actress and businesswoman described this exact moment in a personal essay for British Vogue.

“It was my birthday, my 38th,” she began. “My ex-husband (Chris) and I were hiding out in Tuscany.”

After describing the entire beautiful scene in her own words, she described the grim realization in detail.

“I don’t remember exactly when it happened. I don’t remember what day of the week it was or what time it was,” Paltrow continued. “But I knew – despite long walks and even longer sleep-ins and big glasses of Barolo and holding hands – that my marriage was over.”

“It would be years before we spoke the words out loud,” she added, keeping that realization to herself at the time. But that weekend, “a dam broke just enough to hear the relentless trickle of truth.”

After a decade of marriage, the “Iron Man” actress and the Coldplay frontman publicly confirmed their “conscious separation” in 2014.

The former couple have two children together, 20-year-old daughter Apple and 18-year-old son Moses.

Since their separation and subsequent divorce in 2015, Paltrow and Martin have reunited for family gatherings, holidays and birthdays.

Most recently, Chris, 47, got engaged to Dakota Johnson in March after dating for six years, with some reports claiming Paltrow took over the wedding planning.
