MUSKEGON, MICH. – Makers, artisans and artists took over downtown Muskegon on June 29 for the annual Lakeshore Art Festival.

“The festival is a great way to connect with readers,” said author Jean Davis, who has attended the event for seven years.

Davis’ chicken Laya was there to greet visitors at her booth. Laya sat quietly on Davis’ lap while people browsed the selection of books on display.

In addition to authors, a number of other artists were also represented at the festival. The works of jewelers, photographers and painters were presented at stands.

The two stages offered singers, musicians and other live artists the opportunity to showcase their talent.

Most of the manufacturers came from Michigan, but some traveled from states such as California and Florida.

In addition to the various art exhibitions, the festival also featured a “Chalk the Walk” competition. Artists aged 10 and over decorated a piece of sidewalk with chalk.

Bethany Daniels entered the competition. She got into chalk art while spending time with her daughter.

“I wanted to bring my art from the driveway to the public,” Daniels said.

The festival also featured a “kids’ trail” with interactive activities, face painting and balloon animals.

The Lakeshore Art Festival ends on Sunday and welcomes visitors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about the day’s events, visit the festival website.

Every year over 30,000 people attended the two-day event.
