Athletic Club puts significant hurdles in Barcelona’s way to sign Man Utd and PSG

Athletic Club’s Nico Williams has caught the attention of many of Europe’s top clubs after an impressive 2023/24 season with the Spanish side. The 21-year-old’s outstanding performance has generated a lot of interest.

Recently, Paris Saint-Germain been linked with several talented wingers, including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. However, negotiations with Napoli were difficult, so PSG considered other options.

According to a recent report from CaughtOffside, Williams has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona and PSG.

However, it could be difficult for Barcelona to sign the Athletic Club star. SPORTS Reports (h/t Diario AS) that Athletic is not ready to negotiate with the Catalan team, referring to the release clause.

Recently there was talk that Barça wanted to pay the total amount in several installments, which Bilbao, however, does not want to accept either.

Football España recently reported that Barcelona are making a significant internal effort to sign Williams despite the financial challenges. His release clause is €58 million and they would also have to offer him a significant salary package to get the Spanish winger.

Williams appeared in 37 matches in all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing 19 assists.
