American singer SZA will close Glastonbury 2024 as the last headliner

American soul singer SZA will close this year’s Glastonbury Festival when she headlines the Pyramid Stage on Sunday.

The 34-year-old, whose real name is Solana Rowe and who is known for songs such as PSA, Snooze, All The Stars and Shirt, is one of two female headliners at the Worthy Farm event this year alongside Dua Lipa, who filled the headline slot on Friday night.

SZA’s headlining performance at Glastonbury follows her show on Saturday night at BST Hyde Park, after which she wrote on Instagram: “Thank you for voting with me in Hyde Park. SEE YOU TOMORROW IN GLASTONBURY!!!!”

SZA rose to prominence with her early EPs “See.SZA.Run” and “S,” released in 2011 and 2012 respectively, but fans had to wait another five years for her full-length album, 2017’s “Ctrl.”

It was the single Kill Bill from her second album SOS that made her a superstar in 2022, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number three on the UK Singles Chart.

Her rapid rise made her the most nominated act at the 2024 Grammys, as she was in the running for nine awards.

British rock band Coldplay headlined the Pyramid Stage for the fifth time on Saturday night, securing a place in the Glastonbury music history books as the first band to headline the festival five times.

Her performance featured a guest appearance by Little Simz, just hours after she made her Pyramid Stage debut, and an emotional moment with Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox, who played guitar onstage during her song “Fix You.”

In 2023, he starred in the Apple+ documentary Still: A Michael J Fox Movie, in which he explores the impact of Parkinson’s disease on his life after being diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease a year after the release of Back to the Future III in 1990.

Coldplay thrilled the audience with hits like “Yellow,” “Clocks,” “The Scientist,” and “Higher Power,” and closed the evening with their new single “feelslikeimfallinginlove” from their upcoming album “Moon Music,” which is due to be released on October 4.

It follows 2021’s Music Of The Spheres, which debuted at number one on the UK charts and was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammy Awards.

Also on Sunday’s music bill is Canadian country star Shania Twain, who will take up the coveted ‘Legends’ slot, following in the footsteps of singers such as Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Diana Ross, Kylie Minogue and Dame Shirley Bassey, who have all previously held this prestigious slot.

Nigerian singer Burna Boy, who previously collaborated with Chris Martin on the song “Monsters You Made,” will perform on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday, as will American singer and rapper Janelle Monae.

Singer Paloma Faith, who had to cancel her performance at Guildhall Square in Southampton on Friday, is also scheduled to perform on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday.

In an apparently deleted Instagram post, she explained her cancellation of the show on Friday: “I have been suffering from exhaustion and have caught various illnesses from my children. My voice is severely affected and my vocal range is limited.”

“I have consulted doctors. They advised me to rest my voice. That is why I have to cancel the show tonight.”
