Fifty Shades of Grey – Cast and Character Guide

The 2015 romantic film “Fifty Shades of Grey,” which marked the beginning of a trilogy that grossed $1.3 billion at the box office, features some familiar faces.

When every song from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack is played in the movie

Fifty Shades of Grey features more than a dozen songs

“I put a spell on you” by Annie Lennox – The song that the entire fifty shades of grey Trilogy is an Annie Lennox rendition of an iconic and oft-covered Screamin’ Jay Hawkins song. The song lends a sultry atmosphere to the opening credits, which feature Ana and Christian before they even meet.

“Call Me” by St. Paul and the Broken Bones – This song plays softly as Anastasia and her friend Kate prepare to go out for the night and a surprise delivery from Christian arrives. The lyrics of the song seem to reflect the fact that Christian is about to make his presence known.

“Tribe” by Theophilus London – This song plays in the background when Anastasia is at a bar getting drunk with her friends.

“Rude” by Leon “Roccstar” Youngblood – This track is played in the bar as Anastasia watches from a distance while Christian talks to his brother Elliot.

“Meet Me in the Middle” by Jessie Ware – This song plays during an awkward moment when Christian and Anastasia catch Kate and Elliot making out on the couch. This is one of the few sensual moments in the film that doesn’t feature the main couple.

“Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding – This song, which became one of the film’s signature songs, is played when Christian kidnaps Anastasia on a helicopter ride and takes her to his Seattle apartment for the first time. While the song – which was recorded specifically for the film fifty shades of grey – only appears briefly in the film, it became a hit and reached number 3 on the Billboard charts after its release.

“Salted Wound” by Sia – This sensual track plays during the first love scene between Anastasia and Christian, before the couple begins to fully explore their sadomasochistic relationship.

“Concerto in D minor after Alessandro Marcello, II. Adagio” by Johann Sebastian Bach – Christian himself is playing this classical concert on the piano in his apartment when Anastasia comes into the living room in the middle of the night.

“Beast of Burden” by the Rolling Stones – This song plays in the background the next morning while Anastasia prepares breakfast in Christian’s kitchen.

“Earned It” by The Weekend – This Oscar-nominated song plays when Christian drives Anastasia for a hike in the woods. The song isn’t heard for very long in the film itself, but it’s the first song played when the credits begin.

“Earned It” ultimately lost the Oscar for Best Original Song to Sam Smith’s “Writing’s on the Wall” by

“Haunted” by Beyoncé – This song plays when Anastasia experiments with tying her hands for the second time, before full contract negotiations with Christian take place.

“She’s On Fire” by Bo Saris – This song from 2014 plays quietly in the background as Anastasia and Christian celebrate their graduation privately in their apartment.

“Crazy in Love (2014 Remix)” by Beyoncé – This song plays during the love scene where Anastasia has her first experience with Christian in the Red Room. The slowed down remix, which amplifies the vocals and adds a lot of extra instruments and reverb, highlights the intensity of the experience. However, there are moments where the song comes across as more scary than sensual, highlighting Ana’s fear of entering into Christian’s lifestyle.

“Witchcraft” by Frank Sinatra – This 1957 song plays as Anastasia and Christian dance in his apartment before she meets his sister Mia. The classic oldie, played so quickly after the modern Beyoncé remix, serves as a stark contrast, underscoring that their relationship is very different once they’re behind closed doors.

“One Last Night” by Vaults – This song plays when Christian surprises Anastasia by showing up at a visit to her parents. It underscores the scene where he takes her on a flight. It’s the second time in the film that the couple literally takes off to reach the heights of the peaks of their relationship before the valleys return as they continue to negotiate and argue.

“Prelude in E minor (Op. 28 No. 4)” by Frédéric Chopin – This is another song that Anastasia hears Christian playing on the piano, highlighting the darker side of the character as he reflects on his hidden sadness.

“I Know You” by Skylar Grey – This is the second song played during the end credits, after “Earned It” by The Weekend. The song’s upbeat sadness underlines the uncertain place where the fifty shades of grey The ending leaves the relationship between Anastasia and Christian behind and leads to the 2017 sequel Fifty shades darker.

“Where You Belong” by The Weekend – This is the third song played during the end credits, bringing the tone of the soundtrack back to the combination of sensuality and horror that was previously best showcased in the remix of “Crazy in Love.”
