OMAHA, Nebraska – The Florida State University baseball team has another chance to defeat Texas A&M when the two teams meet in the College World Series on Wednesday night.
The Florida Gators (36-29) must beat the Aggies twice to advance to the CWS Finals for the second consecutive year. Florida landed in the losers bracket with a 3-2 loss to Texas A&M on Saturday night, a game that was delayed 4 hours and 15 minutes due to weather. The Gators nearly recovered a 3-0 deficit, but Texas A&M right fielder Jace LaViolette robbed UF second baseman Cade Kurland of a game-winning two-run home run with a catch over the right field wall in the ninth inning.
Florida moved into the losers bracket of the CWS after beating Kentucky 15-4 on Wednesday morning, a game postponed from Tuesday night due to rain. The 10 a.m. start time did not faze the Gators, who scored 15 runs on 14 hits.
With the win, Florida improved its record in the last 10 games before elimination to 9-1
After the win, Florida’s baseball coach said that right-handed freshman Liam Peterson (3-5, 6.18 ERA) will start for the Gators. Peterson threw 52 pitches against the Aggies on Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in a loss.
UF’s bullpen is well rested after its blowout win over Kentucky, as right-handers Fisher Jameson and Brandon Neely will both be available tonight.
“We’ll be ready to play, and I know our players are excited to have another opportunity to play another game,” Florida baseball coach Kevin O’Sullivan said. “We’ll go home, get some rest and then come back and look forward to playing again.”
