The actor previously said Weekly entertainment that director George Miller envisioned his character as “a historical-looking Roman figure,” which is why he wears a cape in the action film. While he said people can see similarities to his previous superhero character Thor, he enjoyed being able to step into the villain’s shoes this time around.

“It’s not meant to be a comparison to Thor,” the actor said, “but I thought it was a wonderful change – playing the villain, transforming and taking on a completely different physicality was a lot of fun. I loved it. And that was the real attraction.”

Taylor-Joy also noted to the EW that his transformation was a big deal because “it’s one of the few times in my entire career that a male co-star has sat in the makeup chair as long as I have.”

The Dune – Part Two The actress also described her own makeup process in the film as “so much fun” during her conversation with Diversity, and said viewers would see the “evolution” of her character Furiosa through her many looks. She revealed she was particularly looking forward to one on-screen transformation.

“I was so excited to shave my head for this film,” Taylor-Joy said in the interview. “George very quickly said, ‘That doesn’t fit with our schedule and the fact that we have to follow the character through so many different stages of her life. It was just an incredible prosthetic.'”

“And we also had a prosthetic that I could actually shave off because that was really important to me,” she added.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be in theaters on May 24th.
