“This is ridiculous,” complains a Sam’s Club fan as customers beg Costco to introduce the checkout feature in its stores

“This is ridiculous,” complains a Sam’s Club fan as customers beg Costco to introduce the checkout feature in its stores

COSTCO customers have been pushing the retailer to adopt Sam’s Club’s popular checkout feature.

Many customers have often been upset about the warehouse’s self-checkout and receipt control policies.

They have problems with the long queues and waiting times and many have vowed to shop elsewhere.

A customer responded to an X user who said he refused to use Target’s self-checkout lane because he said, “I don’t work at Target.”

They concluded that self-checkout was not the problem and suggested another payment method.

“Whether you want self-checkout or not, what makes the difference is having apps that allow me to scan as I walk through the aisles and pay as I leave the building,” the customer said.

“Sam’s Club has it and I really want Costco to join in.”

Another buyer was also impressed by the scanning technology.

“Costco really needs to implement the scan-and-go checkout method like Sam’s. This is ridiculous,” they wrote on X.

SCAN AND GO

Sam’s Club’s Scan & Go option is very similar to what Walmart offers to its Walmart+ members.

Shoppers who have the Sam’s Club app can use a scanner tool to find and scan the items they want to purchase.

The app combines all of the customer’s scanned items into one barcode on the app.

“The most convenient place to shop,” boasts the boss of Sam’s Club, showing how AI works for the new “Exit Archway” receipt checker.

At an employee checkout or at the self-checkout, the barcode can simply be scanned and the customer can pay.

Some customers praise the Scan & Go option, saying it takes “half the time” to shop in the store and they have fewer lines than at Costco.

Others, however, have had opposite experiences with the new technology.

“WHY AM I WASTE MONEY?”

A shopper criticized Sam’s Club in a long rant after having a disappointing shopping experience.

“Sam’s Club membership is not what it used to be. What an annoying experience,” they wrote in their Reddit post.

“No, I don’t want to download the app to my phone. My phone is already too slow.”

“Another app is not what my phone needs. Several cash registers are not open or unmanned.

“If it is so crowded, why don’t everyone pitch in to speed up the payment process and avoid unnecessary queues?” they asked.

The angry customer added: “So why am I wasting money on this annual membership?”

On another occasion, a Sam’s Club customer harshly criticized the new scanning technology for his shopping cart and said he would return to Costco.

“@SamsClub What’s the point of this new technology if every shopping cart is still stopped and inspected?” asked the X user about the shopping cart policy.

The new technology takes a photo of a shopper’s shopping cart to verify that everything has been paid for either at the self-checkout or via the app..

The aim of this new policy was to reduce queues and waiting times.

“We strive to be the most convenient place to shop,” said Megan Crozier, chief merchant at Sam’s Club, during the Walmart keynote.

A Sam’s Club spokesperson told The US Sun how efficient the new technology is.

“Our exit technology provides our members with a more enjoyable and convenient shopping experience. Exiting the club is 25% faster for all members and more than 55% of members experience a seamless experience,” they told The US Sun.

“In addition, our overall satisfaction rating specifically for exit is approximately 11% higher than clubs without exit tech.”

However, the X-user argued that it took “twice as long” to come out than “a normal receipt check.”

“So, for me it’s back to Costco,” she concluded.

The US Sun has asked Costco for comment.
