Israeli minister says Iran ‘deserves destruction’ for its war threat

Jerusalem:

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on Saturday that Iran’s message of a “devastating war” made it worthy of destruction.

“A regime that threatens destruction deserves to be destroyed,” Katz said in a post on X. He also said Israel would crack down on Iran-backed Hezbollah if it did not stop firing at Israel from Lebanon and withdraw from the border.

The Iranian UN mission said on Friday that if Israel launches a “full-scale military aggression” in Lebanon, it will lead to “a devastating war.”

The Iranian mission also stated in the post on X (formerly known as Twitter) that in such a case, “all options, including the full participation of all resistance fronts, are on the table.”

Parallel to the Gaza war, Hezbollah has been exchanging fire with Israel since October. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said this week that they would prefer a diplomatic path to resolve the situation.

Although Katz is a member of Israel’s security cabinet, war policy has been largely determined by Netanyahu and a small circle of ministers, including Gallant, who traveled to Washington this week for talks on Gaza and Lebanon.
