Taylor Swift presents “The Albatross” live in a mashup with the song “Rep”

Taylor Swift debuted another Department for Tortured Poets Track live on Saturday night (June 29). The singer-songwriter performed “The Albatross,” found on the anthology release of their latest album, for the first time at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

“I’m going to play a song tonight that I’ve never played live before,” she announced on the final stage of the Eras Tour, where she brings surprise songs (often song mashups lately) into the acoustic portion of her show every night.

On her guitar, she launched straight into “The Albatross”: “Wise men once said/ Wild winds are the death of the candle/ A rose by any other name is a scandal/ After warnings were given, he rose/ He shot the messengers/ They tried to warn him about her,” sang Swift. “Agree with your thoughtless heart/ Only alcohol anoints you/ She’s the albatross/ She’s here to destroy you.”

Swift suddenly switched to “Dancing With Our Hands Tied,” a highlight from her Representative Album about a love that she fears is in danger.

“You said there was nothing in the world that could stop it/ I had a bad feeling,” she sang.

She skillfully connected the transitions between the two songs, starting with “Dancing”: “I would kiss you when the lights go out/ I would sway when the room burns down/ I would hold you when the water comes pouring in/ If I could dance with you one more time.”

From the story told in “The Albatross,” Swift concludes: “And if the sky rains fire on you/ And you are persona non grata/ I’ll tell you that I’ve been there too/ And that none of it matters.”

She played the piano 1989‘s dreamy “This Love”, which she combined with elements of her Speak NowLove song “Ours” from that time.

“When you’re young, you just run away/ But you come back to what you need,” she sang on “This Love,” reassuring her muse with a lyric from “Ours”: “It’s not her place to speculate if it’s wrong/ Your hands are hard, but they’re where I belong/ I’ll fight her doubts and give you faith with this song for you.”

Two months after its release on April 19, Swift has now played most of the 31 tracks Tortured poets performed live at least once. Their main setlist includes several songs from the album: “But Daddy I Love Him,” a small sample of “So High School,” “Whose Afraid of Little Old Me?” and “Down Bad,” which segues into “Fortnight,” followed by “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and the theatrical “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”

She has yet to perform the songs “So Long, London”, “Florida!!!” feat. Florence + The Machine, “Clara Bow”, “imgonnagetyouback”, “Cassandra” and “Robin” from the album on stage.

You can watch clips from Saturday night’s two acoustic performances below. Swift’s Eras Tour will entertain Dublin audiences with another show on Sunday before heading to Amsterdam on July 4. Dates in Zurich, Milan and more will follow.
