Country Club Hills man sentenced to 16 years in prison for selling heroin laced with fentanyl

CHICAGO – A Cook County man will spend more than 15 years in federal prison for selling heroin laced with fentanyl in the south suburbs in 2019.

Calvin Carter, a 44-year-old Country Club Hills resident who pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges in federal court earlier this year, was sentenced to 16 years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois.

Prosecutors said Carter sold the fentanyl-laced heroin on two separate occasions to buyers who cooperated with law enforcement.

The sales, which took place in the fall of 2019, took place in the parking lot of a gas station in Olympia Fields and the parking lot of a liquor store in Country Club Hills.

“The defendant possessed nearly a kilogram of heroin and fentanyl that he intended to distribute to others,” said Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Niranjan Emani. “The types of drugs the defendant sold and intended to distribute have a devastating impact on the community.”

According to prosecutors, authorities searched Carter’s home after the sales and found several firearms.

The verdict against Carter was announced on Thursday, June 20, by U.S. District Judge Manish Shah.
