Jim Schlossnagle cleans up at the Longhorns, hitting coach Chris Gordon is finished in Texas

When former Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle was named the new leader of the Texas Longhorns, the college baseball scene was thrown into turmoil.

Since becoming the Horns’ newest head coach, Schlossnagle has brought in former assistants from Aggieland, including Michael Earley, Max Weiner and Nolan Cain.

Texas parted ways with former head coach David Pierce after a highly disappointing postseason that included losses to Texas A&M in the College Station Regional.

A coaching change was expected to be looming at Texas after the 2024 season, and after it was announced that Pierce was leaving and Schlossnagle was named his successor, it was only safe to assume that members of his staff would follow the move.

Most recently, Chris Gordon, the Longhorns’ hitting and pitching development coordinator and assistant coach, announced that his time with the Longhorns was over.

Gordon joined the Horns in 2023 and helped several Texas pitchers have their breakout seasons in 2024.

His pitchers Gage Boehm was named to the All-Big 12 first team, Andre Duplantier II returned to full strength with 29 appearances on the mound, and Max Grubbs and Ace Whitehead both received honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.

Gordon has been credited with much of the development of the Texas pitchers this season, although there have been some weaknesses in the bullpen throughout the year.

Pierce, who announced he would take over pitching decisions later in the season, undid much of the work Gordon had done, but the pitching coordinator still earned the plaudits of players and fans.

With the odds still looking slim, the Longhorns can only assume there will be more coaching changes.
