With its colorful animations and stories, it won fans all over the world and is still considered one of Cartoon Network’s most popular shows.

Last year, Ed, Edd and EddIt made a minor comeback when the series was added to Adult Swim for the network’s Throwback block. However, when asked if he would be interested in rebooting the series, Antonucci expressed his disinterest in the concept.

Antonucci continued, “(laughs) Oh, sure. Make an AI version. For me, I did what I wanted to do.” I mean, if the network wants to do it, good luck to them: it’s going to fail miserably. They could have done a lot of things, like spinoffs with some of the characters. I was told you can do that for Adult Swim, and they’re all grown-ups, but then you’re just repeating an idea. It was what it was, and going back and revisiting it wouldn’t be the same.”

25 years later for Ed, Edd and Eddy

Before working on Ed, Edd and Eddy, Antonucci had worked primarily on surrealist animations for adults. When asked how it felt to look back on his first children’s series, Antonucci said: “You know, it was so strange how it all happened. I was doing my own thing, coming out of Lupo the Butcher And The Grunt Brothers and TV commercials – all with an adult twist. Then I got a call from these two young guys from Nickelodeon and they said, “Hey, why don’t you do a kids show?!” and I laughed in their faces.” Antonucci then said, “But in the end I thought it turned out really well and you started to get a good feel for the characters. I just wanted to create characters that people could believe in and identify with, just like the cartoons I grew up with.”
