Morgan Freeman thanks fans for pointing out the ‘fraudulent’ AI version of his voice

Morgan Freeman thanked his fans for alerting him that his voice had been recreated using artificial intelligence (AI).

The 87-year-old American actor and Oscar winner is one of many Hollywood stars whose voices have been imitated using technology.

Freeman wrote on X: “Thank you to my incredible fans for their vigilance and support in calling out the unauthorized use of an AI voice imitating me.

“Your efforts help ensure that authenticity and integrity remain our top priority. Thank you. #AI #Fraud #Imitation #IdentityProtection.”

It is unclear which problem with artificial intelligence the actor, known from “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Driving Miss Daisy” and “Million Dollar Baby,” wanted to address in his contribution.

There are reports of a TikTok influencer using technology to seemingly mimic Freeman’s voice and joke that she is the actor’s niece.

A deepfake artist also created an AI-generated video of Freeman in 2022.

Freeman has lent his voice to documentaries, including the Oscar-winning March of the Penguins, and more recent narratives in the nature shows Life on Our Planet and Our Universe, as well as several commercials.

Earlier this year, Scarlett Johansson said she was “shocked” and “angry” at how “eerily similar” one of the voices in ChatGPT sounded to hers.

In response, OpenAI said it would “pause” the use of one of the voices in ChatGPT following comparisons to the Hollywood actress.

Johansson said OpenAI “reluctantly” agreed to remove the Sky voice after hiring lawyers who wrote to the artificial intelligence giant’s chief executive, Sam Altman, asking about the process the company used to develop the voice.

OpenAI rejected the allegation, saying it was not AI and “belonged to another professional actress using her own natural speaking voice.”

In January, social media platform X had to temporarily block searches related to Taylor Swift after fake, AI-generated and explicit images of the pop star were posted on the site.
