Coldplay leave Glastonbury fans ANGRY as they start their set late and make history

Coldplay made history on Saturday when they became the first band ever to headline Glastonbury five times.

The British band with 47-year-old Chris Martin at the helm made their debut at the legendary festival in the New Bands Tent in 1999, before headlining in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016.

Fifteen minutes late, the group opened their historic performance with the hit “Yellow” from 2000 and was sung along to by the crowd of festival-goers.

However, some viewers at home were frustrated by the delay and vented their feelings on social media.

On X, formerly Twitter, it says: “You’re late, guys. Get going!”: “Always late, but worth the wait.”: “10 minutes late, damn it, the Coldplay classic.”: “Coldplay late, what’s new?”: “When they’re late, it really is a Coldplay show.”

Chris radiated confidence as he strutted around the stage and performed a number of the group’s best-known hits, but the historic show left fans divided.

While some viewers called the show “iconic” and the emotional tunes brought tears to their eyes, others found the show “boring.”

Addressing X excited fans who wrote: “OMG Coldplay are awesome”: “Perfection”: “Coldplay are amazing”: “Chris Martin never disappoints… Coldplay are spectacular… can’t stop singing”.

They were later joined by 25-year-old disabled pianist Victoria Canal, who played and provided background vocals on an incredible rendition of the 2011 hit “Paradise.”

At one point, Chris ran to Victoria and took her face in his hands, obviously overwhelmed by the emotions of the moment.

Victoria had previously told the Times that the singer had asked her to come on stage with them in a surprise video call.

(Chris) said, “Hey, Victoria. Do you want to play piano and sing with me on stage at Glastonbury?”

“I said, ‘OK…? That sounds great.’ And from that moment on, I’ve been rehearsing and thinking about what I’m going to wear on the biggest stage of all time.”

On June 26, 1998, a then 22-year-old musician stood on the pitch at UCL’s Wye Farming College during its end-of-year dance and announced what the future would look like for Coldplay, who were then just one year old.

He said: “Jon Buckland, Chris Martin, Will Champion and Guy Berryman act from Coldplay. They’re going to be such a big band. This will be on national TV in four years. Four years.”

He concluded: “Guy, Will, John and Chris. Don’t forget this. Huge, absolutely huge.”

The following year they performed at Glastonbury for the first time and just three years later they headlined for the first time.

Each of the members Chris mentioned stayed to see the band’s success, and over time manager Phil Harvey joined the band.

Headliners of this year’s festival are Coldplay on Saturday night, SZA on Sunday night and Dua Lipa, who performed on Friday night.
