JUG

breed

Tyler Glasnow, Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants ($12,000) – The Dodgers lost the first game of this series on Friday night, but they’ll be very confident on Saturday when they hand the ball off to Glasnow. The Dodgers’ offseason addition is one of the favorites for the NL Cy Young Award at +380 at DraftKings Sportsbook. In his 16 starts, Glasnow has gone 8-5 with a 2.88 ERA and 2.64 FIP and leads the MLB with 135 strikeouts in his 100 innings. His 12.15 K/9 strikeout rate is second-best among starting pitchers in the MLB, with only Garrett Crochet better. Glasnow beat the Giants earlier this season with seven strikeouts in six strong innings and has been cranking up the K’s lately, with at least eight strikeouts in five straight games and double-digit strikeouts in two of his last three games. Glasnow is a high price to pay on Saturday night, but there are enough good options in the player pool to make him viable and valuable for that salary. He’s posted over 22 DKFP in five straight starts, showing good consistency, but he also has a lot of potential after posting over 35 DKFP in each of his last two starts.

Value

Reese Olson, Detroit Tigers at Los Angeles Angels ($6,900) – Olson had some strong starts earlier this season before hitting a rough patch, dropping three straight starts in early June. He’s turned things around in his last two outings and will look to continue his turnaround on Saturday night as he helps the Tigers rebound from two straight losses heading into their stop in Anaheim. Olson has a 3.35 ERA and 2.29 FIP in his 15 starts this season and has 72 strikeouts in 83 games. 13 innings. Two starts ago, he threw six shutout innings in Atlanta, scoring 27.1 DKFP in a no-decision game. Then, in his last game, he picked up a win over the White Sox, scoring 17.9 DKFP with 6 13 innings of good work. When at his best, Olson generates a lot of ground balls and can also rack up strikeouts. He should be a good player under $7,000 and have a very good chance against the Angels, who rank in the bottom six in MLB in runs scored, team batting average and wOBA over the last 30 days.

INFIELD

breed

Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers at the San Francisco Giants (7,000 USD) – The Dodgers went big with Glasnow and Ohtani this past offseason and both additions have paid off so far. Ohtani has taken things to a whole new level of late and established himself as the favorite for NL MVP. He leads the MLB with a .322 batting average and has 25 home runs, 16 stolen bases and an incredible .439 wOBA this season. His franchise-record streak of 10 RBI games ended Friday night, but in his last 11 games he has a .436 batting average (17 of 39) with eight home runs, a .692 ISO and a .652 wOBA. After that stretch, he has averaged 18.5 DKFP per game. The Giants plan to play a bullpen game on Saturday led by Eric Miller ($4,000) and probably with Spencer Howard ($5,500) as a bulk reliever. It should be a great matchup for the Dodgers, and if you can afford Ohtani, he’s an elite hitter to build around either at 1B or in the OF, depending on the makeup of the rest of your roster.

breed

Willy Castro, Minnesota Twins at Seattle Mariners ($4,500) – Castro proved his worth earlier this season when he replaced all of the Twins’ injuries and has established himself as the team’s first hitter amid what appears to be a breakout season. The 27-year-old has a .277 batting average this season with a .359 wOBA, seven home runs and eight stolen bases. He comes into Saturday’s matchup on a 12-game hitting streak and has a .365 batting average (23-for-63) with three home runs, eight doubles, 15 runs scored and a .459 wOBA in his last 15 games. Like Ohtani, Castro can also slide into the outfield if that makes building your roster easier.

Value

Jorge Mateo, Baltimore Orioles Comparisons Texas Rangers ($3,500) – Mateo has been stuck in a bit of a platoon at the 2B position for the O’s lately, but when he’s gotten opportunities lately, he’s been productive. He’s batted safely in six of his last seven starts, going 8-for-26 (.308) with a double, a triple and a home run, and averaging 7.4 DKFP per game. He brings a bit of power and some stealthy speed as well, as he has a .204 ISO and 12 stolen bases in 14 attempts this season. He fits in any middle infield position and should be able to provide good value at that salary on Saturday. He has multiple ways to produce, so he’s worth a look even at a lower spot in the lineup than ideal.

Value

Davis Wendzel, Texas Rangers at Baltimore Orioles ($2,000) – There won’t be many infielders under $3,000 starting this Saturday night, so most of your bargain plays will have to come from the outfield. One notable exception to this trend is Wendzel, who is available for the minimum salary of just $2,000 and is expected to start for the Rangers against the left-handed bat. Cade Povich ($5,900). Wendzel was called up in early June and has seen more playing time since Ezequiel Duran was sent back to Triple-A. Wendzel went 2-for-4 with a double and 10 DKFP in his final start on Wednesday. In 21 games at Triple-A this year, he showed solid potential, batting .286 with four home runs and a wOBA of .394. If you’re going to spend big on the Dodgers or other high-priced options, Wendzel could be a much-needed source of salary relief.

OUTFIELD

breed

Riley Greene, Detroit Tigers at Los Angeles Angels ($5,400) – Greene is becoming the centerpiece of the Tigers offense and has already set a career high with 15 home runs. While his .260 batting average isn’t great, he was much better in June, hitting .308 with five home runs, five doubles, two stolen bases and a wOBA of .415 in his 25 games this month. Greene has a 50% hard hit rate this month, according to Statcast, and he has a strong matchup against Griffin Canning ($6,000)who has allowed left-handed hitters to hit .283 against him this season, with a wOBA of .374 and 10 home runs this season. He is one of the best outfielders on Saturday’s limited roster and brings high potential against Canning.

breed

Byron Buxton, Minnesota Twins at Seattle Mariners ($4,300) – Buxton has incredibly high potential and has shown he’s at peak form and hitting a lot of home runs. However, this season has been difficult and injuries have continued to be an issue. In his first 47 games this year, he’s batting just .223 with three home runs and a .279 wOBA. His DFS salary dropped as a result, and he has the potential to be a great value if he turns things around for the better. In his last 14 games, he’s shown signs of slowly getting into his stride, hitting an impressive .380 with four doubles, four home runs, and a .484 wOBA. Buxton has had multiple hits in three of his last four games, hitting a home run on Thursday en route to 30 DKFP before taking Friday off. He should be back in the lineup on Saturday and is an option that offers plenty of upside at this salary.

Value

Willie Calhoun, Los Angeles Angels vs. Detroit Tigers ($3,000) – Calhoun has been a good source of valuable hitting ability in the middle of the batting order for the Halos, and the left-hander is a solid player at just $3,000 against Olson and the Tigers. Calhoun has a .280 batting average this season and is 5-for-12 with three extra-base hits, including a home run, in his last four games. He has reached double-digit DKFP in three of those four games and brings good power potential, although he can be up and down at times.

Value

Heston Kjerstad, Baltimore Orioles vs. Texas Rangers ($2,200) – Kjerstad began the season as the 20th-ranked prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, and proved he’s ready for his MLB opportunity in 56 games this season with the Norfolk Tides in Triple-A. He batted .300 with 16 home runs and a .424 wOBA in the minors, but struggled during his first major league appearance, going just 2-for-17. Since being recalled earlier this week, he’s struck out three straight and looked much more relaxed, hitting 4-for-10 (.400) with a double, a home run, a walk and three RBIs. He had 25 DKFP in Thursday’s series opener, but had Friday off. He should be back in the lineup Saturday against… Michael Lorenzen ($7,100) and has a very high limit due to his elite power potential.
