Chris Bassitt received a welcome gift from Aaron Judge.
Or, perhaps more clearly, a second right elbow.
Things got heated on Saturday in the Yankees’ third game against the Blue Jays in their four-game series in Toronto, when Judge hit a 101 mph line drive straight at Bassitt with the score at 2-0.
The crowd at the Rogers Centre reacted loudly as the ball bounced off the right-hander’s arm and toward first baseman Justin Turner as Judge ran safely to first base.
In replays of the liner, the ball can be heard hitting Bassitt hard, immediately causing a welt to form on his right elbow.
However, he stayed in the game.
Other than the welts on Bassitt’s elbow, the Blue Jays suffered no damage from the incident during the inning.
After Judge suffered a strikeout, Alex Verdugo and Gleyber Torres’ at-bat were caught by catcher Alejandro Kirk stealing third base from Ben Rice, ending the inning.
The Blue Jays went into the sixth inning with a 3-1 lead.
The Yankees (53-31) are hoping for a win that will help them break out of their slump in June, during which they won two games against the Mets during the Subway Series.
