Shifty Shellshock’s family breaks their silence on his death

The family of Shifty Shellshock, the frontman of Crazy Town, have broken their silence about his death.

The “Butterfly” singer, whose real name was Seth Binzer, died of an accidental drug overdose in his Los Angeles home on June 24. He was 49 years old.

In a statement The sunBinzer’s family said the rocker’s “proudest achievements” were his three sons, Halo, Gage and Phoenix.

“For Seth, the world was art – he loved every part of it, from music and fashion to graffiti, skateboarding and his hometown of Los Angeles,” the statement said. “He loved his three boys more than anything and his devotion to his music and his fans never wavered.”

In the statement, Binzer’s family also confirmed his experiences with substance abuse, which the star has always spoken very openly about. At the beginning of his career, he appeared on VH1 shows Celebrity rehab And Sober House.

“Seth struggled with addiction his entire life, and he did so on a very public platform, which was especially challenging,” the statement said. “God knows he tried so hard to conquer his demons, but unfortunately he lost his battle.”

“We are heartbroken by his loss. Seth’s overwhelming presence touched so many,” the statement continued. “Seth was a tortured soul, but he was beautiful and had a heart of gold.”

Crazy Town manager Howie Hubberman told PEOPLE that Binzer’s cause of death was “a combination of prescription drugs and street-bought drugs.”

“After his battle with addiction and the rapid success of Crazy Town, Seth Binzer was never able to successfully deal with his addictions with ‘Butterfly,'” said Hubberman. “We all tried, but ultimately we all failed, otherwise Shifty would still be here.”

“Shifty was a friend and really wanted to get himself repaired – unfortunately no one, including me, had the right tools to do it,” he added.

Binzer first entered the music world in 1992 with fellow singer, rapper and bandmate Bret “Epic” Mazur. The pair formed a group called Brimstone Sluggers, which became Crazy Town in 1995. diversity and deadline.
