The Utah Hockey Club made one of the biggest trades of the NHL offseason, signing defenseman Mikhail Sergachev from Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Sergachev, 26, has won the Stanley Cup twice and scored two goals and had 17 assists last season, which was interrupted by a knee injury.

According to NHL.com, Utah traded defenseman JJ Moser and forward Conor Geekie, a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft and a second-round pick in next year’s draft.

The move came as a surprise to NHL insiders.

Utah HC, however, was not satisfied with that. The team also signed former New Jersey defenseman John Marino on Saturday, foregoing two draft picks in the process.

Marino scored four goals and 21 assists for the Devils last season.

The Utah Hockey Club’s weekend began Friday with two first-round picks in the NHL Draft. The team selected Tij Iginla with the sixth overall pick before trading back up for center Cole Beaudoin in the first round.
