Kevin Love of the Miami Heat rejects player option

Miami Heat forward Kevin Love has reportedly declined his player option for next season.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Heat and Love are interested in negotiating a new contract.

“Both sides are excited to negotiate a new contract in the early days of free agency,” Wojnarowski wrote to X. “The five-time All-Star has played the last two seasons with the Heat.”

Love has spent the last 1 1/2 seasons with the Heat, serving as both a starter and a key reserve, averaging 8.8 points and 6.1 rebounds last year.

RILEY CHEAPEST GOODS

It seems that this Miami Heat draft was easier than last year.

They had a good idea of what they wanted when it was clear they would get the number 15. It was just a question of whether the player was still there.

It turned out that Indiana Hoosiers center Kel’el Ware was available, so the Heat could pick at will once their selection was finalized.

“We’re very happy that we were able to get exactly the player we wanted,” said Heat team president Pat Riley. “… That name kept popping up in front of me. The videos kept coming. The practice was exceptional the day he was here. We never deviated from his position on the board. Whoever was there or whatever it was, we were committed.”

Ware was introduced to the media in South Florida on Friday.
