Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is being extensively remastered with this year’s Metal Gear Solid Delta, which not only retains the entire original voice cast, but also adds entirely new lines from old, previously unused clips.
In the latest episode of Metal Gear – Production Hotline, producer Noriaki Okamura confirmed that “the game’s story and all of the voice acting will be the same for both the Japanese version and Engine” and that the team at Konami “definitely hasn’t made any recasts.”
The only minor changes come when the characters give you “tips on how to play, especially on the controls,” which is relatively common in the stealth series. However, Konami’s developers have encountered a small difficulty, as the remake includes a new control scheme in addition to the “legacy” controls and color filters, and will also be available on consoles other than the PS2.
“Some of those lines don’t match today’s console controls, and that’s not actually possible, so we recorded new versions of those exact lines,” Okamura continued. “Unfortunately, some of the original cast members are no longer with us or were unable to record, so in those cases, we sought permission first and then used their existing recordings to put together the new lines.”
“The story will not change, but there will be a few differences to teach players the correct controls,” said presenter Tsukika Momoyama.
Elsewhere in the episode, we learned that series creator Hideo Kojima and the original team will be named in the new version, while a current producer says he would “want nothing more” than for the famous director to return to the series.
