Gilda’s Club supports cancer patients in the Quad Cities. And this reach is growing all the time.

Executive Director Joy Bush has announced that the organization’s free services will be expanded to the entire state of Iowa, allowing the group to offer virtual support groups and educational programs across the state.

So far, only 13 counties in Iowa and eight in Illinois have been covered.

The expansion is being made possible thanks in large part to a donation from the Iowa Cancer Consortium. Bush says the expansion is an upliftment for the community.

“We hope that in the future, as awareness of our programs increases across the state, we will be able to offer direct, in-person programs in cities across the state like we are used to here in the Quad City area,” she said. “We don’t want anyone to have to go through this alone. And knowing that this is possible across a large portion of our state, we are very excited to be able to offer this to them.”

The club is changing its name to Cancer Support Community – Iowa and Northwestern Illinois at Gilda’s Club. The name change is intended to better represent its services.
