Another user wrote: “It was such a shocking documentary and honestly I’m still not 100% sure what to believe.”

Meanwhile, another viewer said: “Too disturbing for me to continue watching.”

They were referring to “Tell Them You Love Me,” which tells the story of white, married university professor Anna who meets Derrick, a black, non-speaking and disabled younger brother of one of her students, John Johnson.

Anna’s meeting with Derrick takes place after John asked her about his brother’s disability, cerebral palsy.

This led to Anna and Derrick, 28, meeting in person for the first time, with Anna Derrick helping the other communicate.

After teaching him to type on a keyboard equipped with an LED screen, Derrick begins taking university courses.

Although Anna later claimed to be married to someone else, the two fell in love and began a supposedly consensual sexual relationship.

However, as the series progresses, it becomes clear that Anna was convicted of sexually abusing the man she supposedly loved after his mother found out about their relationship.

Derrick’s mother accused Anna of taking advantage of her son, who had been deemed mentally incapable by the state.

In a subsequent verdict, Anna is found guilty of two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Two years later, her appeal was upheld and the conviction was overturned on formal grounds.

The show then looks at why the testimony that Anna helped Derrick through computer-assisted communication was dismissed, while also trying to figure out why she agreed to a plea deal for a lesser charge.

“Tell Them You Love Me” is now available to stream on Netflix
