“The Outsider” is an incredible psychological thriller: FLASHBACK

“The Outsider” is one of the best thrillers ever broadcast on television.

We’ve started a nice trend here at OutKick by shining a spotlight on some old shows and movies I’ve enjoyed over the years.

I’m not sure why, but I decided to reminisce about my recent entertainment choices and I really enjoyed it.

Next up is The Outsider, and you definitely don’t want to miss it.

“The Outsider” is a great television series.

Basic facts about “The Outsider”:

  • Cast: Jason Bateman, Ben Mendelsohn, Paddy Considine, Bill Camp, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vazquez and Cynthia Erivo.
  • Number of episodes: 10
  • Original premiere date: January 12, 2020
  • Network: HBO
  • Plot Description: When an insidious supernatural force intrudes on the seemingly simple investigation into the gruesome murder of a young boy, a seasoned cop and an unconventional investigator are forced to question everything they believe in.

That’s the basic information you need before diving into the series based on a book by Stephen King. And I can promise you that once you start the first episode, you will be hooked.

It all begins with the incredibly graphic murder of a little boy named Frankie Peterson. He was not only murdered, but basically mauled and eaten.

Terry Maitland (Bateman), a popular local and baseball coach, is arrested as the sole suspect after several witnesses see him with Frankie and his DNA is found everywhere in connection with the crime.

But nothing is as it seems as Detective Ralph Anderson (Mendelsohn) delves deeper and deeper into the Peterson murder case.

The problem? There is compelling evidence that Maitland was more than 50 miles away at the time of the murder, meaning it would have been physically impossible for him to kill Frankie. Yet his DNA is all over the crime scene and witnesses saw him abduct the boy.

How is all this possible? Here the mystery of “The Outsider” unfolds and takes the audience into a *VERY* dark and mysterious path.

Without giving too much away, I can say that The Outsider is one of the darkest shows I’ve ever seen. It’s much more menacing and creepy than the first season of True Detective. It’s the kind of show that keeps you up at night after you’ve seen it. It’s the kind of show that makes you look over your shoulder in a dark room.

Well, this show is not for everyone. It is brutal, gruesome and delves into the paranormal/unexplained.

However, if you like any of those elements, then this show is for you. Just know that there is no real light at the end of the tunnel. This show is about human suffering, pain, and evil at its worst.

I also have to commend Mendelsohn for delivering a first-class performance as Ralph Anderson. The main reason The Outsider is a must-see is because of him and his ability to grab the audience and not let them go.

If you’re looking for a new show, I recommend checking out The Outsider. Have you seen it yet? Let me know what you think. [email protected].
