Netflix’s Heeramandi song ‘Sakal Ban’ to be featured in Royal College of Music Museum exhibition in London – Firstpost

The series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar by Netflix and Sanjay Leela Bhansali has released the popular song “Sakal ban” is featured in the exhibition “Awaken: Sufi Music and Women of South Asia” at the Royal College of Music (RCM) Museum in London. The exhibition will be on display in the UK for three months until October. This recording places “Heeramandi” alongside iconic and legendary Sufi music such as that from the films Mughal-E-Azam And Zeenatand cemented its status as a groundbreaking work in Indian music history.

In the introductory week
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar
became the most watched Indian series on Netflix and was trending in 43 countries. It is the first Indian series to feature a globally acclaimed music album and showcases India’s rich musical heritage on an international platform. The Royal College of Music Museum’s exhibition titled ‘Awaken: Sufi Music and Women of South Asia’ brings to life the often overlooked stories of women’s roles in the male-dominated musical landscape of Sufism.

The exhibition, which opened on June 18, highlights the invaluable contributions of Sufi women through objects from collections around the world. It showcases the voices, performances and instruments of Sufi women in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh from the Mughal period to present-day London. The inclusion of “Sakal Ban” in this exhibition underlines the cultural and musical significance of the song.

The music from the series has crossed borders, with music lovers across the world praising its melody and musical brilliance. The songs from the series have become a global sensation, and there are countless Instagram reels and posts showcasing the tracks. This huge popularity underlines the global appeal of the music curated by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
