GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) –

The NFL’s top insider believes that Packers star quarterback Jordan Love’s pending contract extension has picked up steam over the past week following recent quarterback deals across the country.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who spoke to ESPN Milwaukee on Tuesday, he’s heard Love will ask for “north of” $55 million annually in his new contract extension, after reportedly likely seeking a deal closer to $52 or $53 million earlier in the offseason.

“I don’t think Jordan Love is taking less than Trevor Lawrence; I just don’t think he is. So if the deal had been done a few weeks ago, I would have imagined that amount would have been $52 or $53 million, and now I see that amount over $55 million,” Schefter said.

The increase in costs comes as Schefter believes Love is trying to wave through the deal the Jacksonville Jaguars just offered to former first-round pick Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence signed a five-year contract worth $275 million with $142 million guaranteed at signing, matching the Cincinnati Bengals’ 2023 contract extension with Joe Burrow, making them the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.

By the numbers, Love finished with fewer interceptions, a higher passer rating, a better PFF offensive grade, more passing yards and more touchdowns than Lawrence will have in 2023. During mandatory minicamp last week, Love told reporters, “That’s what I’ve heard,” when asked if he thought a deal could be reached before training camp begins in July.
