Brandon Aiyuk loves playing for the 49ers.

With contract negotiations still ongoing between the star wide receiver and the NFL team that drafted him, Aiyuk would not pass up the opportunity to play elsewhere with one of his close friends should those talks fall through.

Aiyuk recently stated on The Pivot podcast that if he cannot reach an agreement with the 49ers, he would be happy to work again with his former Arizona State teammate and current Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

“I have another meeting scheduled with the 49ers,” Aiyuk said on the podcast, which was recorded before his meeting with San Francisco on Monday but released Friday. “We’ll see how it goes. If it doesn’t go the way we all hope, then (moving to Washington and joining Daniels) would be great.”

“It would be great to get together with a good friend of mine, a brother, a great human being, teammate and player who I believe can take my game to the next level.”

Aiyuk and Daniels played together for the Sun Devils in 2019. That season, the future 49ers star caught 65 passes for 1,192 yards and eight touchdowns before San Francisco selected him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Commanders selected Daniels second in the 2024 draft after he transferred to LSU for two seasons.

Although Aiyuk would like to play alongside Daniels, he said on the podcast “The Pivot” that he is happy with the current situation with quarterback Brock Purdy and the 49ers.

“I feel like I’m in the right place with the right quarterback right now,” Aiyuk said. “But we don’t get along well.”

As negotiations between Aiyuk and the 49ers continue, a trade to Washington appears to be off the table. Aiyuk and the 49ers had a “good meeting” on Monday, and San Francisco plans to add him to its roster next season, NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday on NFL Network’s “The Insiders.”

The Faithful certainly hope that Aiyuk will return to Purdy in 2024 and not alongside Daniels.
