As the war between Russia and Ukraine rages on, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is working on a “comprehensive plan” on how he believes the war should end. The Ukrainian leader’s statement came on Friday. However, there are currently no public talks between the two warring nations.

Although Zelensky hosted a major international peace summit in Switzerland earlier this month, Russia was not invited to the event. “It is very important for us to present a plan to end the war that is supported by the majority of the world,” the Ukrainian president said on Friday.

“This is the diplomatic path we are working on,” he added. Zelensky’s comments came during a joint press conference with Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar.

Is the world getting closer to the end of the war?

Speaking to the media in Brussels on Thursday, the Ukrainian president said he would present a “detailed plan” on how to end the war “within a few months.” He stressed that Kyiv did not have “too much time” and pointed to the high number of casualties among soldiers and civilians. AFP reported.

More than 90 countries sent representatives to the two-day summit hosted by Zelensky in Switzerland. Although it was said that the countries would meet to discuss ending the war, the other belligerent country, Russia, was excluded from the summit.

Interestingly, the vast majority of participants agreed with a final communiqué that stressed the need to respect Ukraine’s “territorial integrity” in any agreement.

However, many countries, including India, disagreed with the communiqué and Russia’s strong ally China eventually boycotted the summit entirely. At the time, Beijing argued that it would not participate in the international event because Moscow was not invited.

Since the beginning of the war, Ukraine has repeatedly stressed that Russia must withdraw its troops from internationally recognized territories to ensure a “just end” to the war. The Zelensky government has repeatedly called on the Russian authorities to withdraw their troops from the Crimean peninsula. The region was annexed by Moscow in 2014.

Zelensky stressed that the above conditions must be met before the two nations can even come together and discuss peace prospects.

As Russian troops slowly advance onto the battlefield and say they captured another small village on Friday, Kyiv is working day and night to ask Western allies for financial and military help to counter Russian anger.
