Israel’s war on Gaza live: 60,000 flee street battles in Shujayea region | Gaza news
Al Jazeera reports from outside Israel because the Israeli government has banned the channel.
The Israeli military has not yet confirmed the deaths of four Israeli soldiers and five others injured in fighting in the Shujayea neighborhood in northern Gaza. According to reports in the Israeli media, several Israeli helicopters flew to the area to evacuate the dead and injured.
Earlier, at around 10:00 a.m. local time (07:00 GMT), the Israeli military released a statement announcing that it was continuing its operations in the Shujayea neighborhood, both from the air – through bombs dropped by Israeli aircraft – and additionally through Israeli troops on the ground.
The Israeli army claims it is not harming civilians and has issued evacuation orders. But we saw that at least seven Palestinian civilians were killed in Shujayea on Friday. These are Palestinians who have been repeatedly displaced by Israeli forces and who say they simply have no place to go.
This is one of the areas in the north over which the Israeli army claims to have gained almost complete operational control almost six months ago.
But now, at the end of June, we see that the Israeli army is still encountering Hamas ground fighters in the north of the Gaza Strip.
