Report: Golden State Warriors ready to accept desperate Chris Paul transfer despite transfer rumors

There is still a lot of uncertainty about Chris Paul’s future with the Golden State Warriors. In fact, all signs currently indicate that the 12-time All-Star’s time with the Dubs is already up.

The Warriors, for their part, do not seem to plan to keep Paul for the upcoming season.

Golden State Warriors postpone Chris Paul’s guarantee date

It’s now abundantly clear that Golden State is doing everything it can to find a trade deal for Paul, just one year after adding the 11-time All-NBA point guard to its roster. According to a report from ESPN’s NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors have delayed their decision to guarantee CP3’s contract for 2024-25:

As Woj suggested, the reason for this decision is because the Warriors have more time to negotiate a trade deal for Paul. This also likely means that the demand for CP3 on the market is not as high as Golden State hopes.

Warriors become desperate

At this point, the Warriors appear to be desperate. It’s inevitable that the Dubs will have to lower their price for Paul in a potential trade, but beyond that, it’s now being reported that Golden State is willing to resort to desperate measures if a trade doesn’t go through.

This report comes from Kendra Andrews of ESPN:

“There’s also still the possibility that Golden State could ultimately release Paul, giving the team major salary cap relief. However, sources told ESPN that the Warriors wanted to make sure Paul got a good spot on another team – if they found the right deal,” Andrews wrote.

The Warriors are still hoping to find a suitable trade partner for the 19-year-old veteran, but if that doesn’t work out, they seem willing to pull out all the stops just to make sure Paul (and his huge contract) is off their roster by the start of the 2024-25 season.
