“Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan releases viral song “Shoes…More Shoes”

“Shoes…More Shoes” also raises money for LGBTQ+ charities

A couple Weeks after an interview that Bridgerton And Derry Girl Star Nicola Coughlan went viral after joking about making a cheesy song in the style of Countess Luann from the Real Housewives. She’s now officially put that joke into action. And she’s using the song to raise money for good causes.

In early June, Coughlan answered a question on Britain’s Hits Radio X about what career she would have if she wasn’t acting. “Sometimes I think, ‘Do you know when the Real Housewives are releasing pop songs exclusively for gay men?'” she said. “That’s kind of my dream job. ‘Shoes and private yachts, caviar and more shoes.’ So I’d keep an eye out for that song. I’ve got plenty more lyrics in me, don’t worry.” She joked that she should be known as the “John Lennon of the West of Ireland.”

On Friday, Coughlan and her collaborator Ellis Miah uploaded their masterpiece “Shoes…More Shoes” to major streaming services. Over a bouncy house beat, she delivers the glamorous lyrics she improvised on the radio show with a serious expression: “Let me tell you something, money can’t buy you class/It can buy you a lot of shoes, private yachts, caviar and more shoes.” Towards the end, she says, “This one’s for all the little lesbians… have you ever noticed that transphobes have really shitty hair? That’s karma, bitch.”

On Instagram, she wrote that the song would raise money for the organizations Not a Phase and Trevor Project.

“Like Lennon & McCartney, Dylan and the other great lyricists, I wrote my first song by improvising some voice notes to Ellis Miah in the 30 minutes I had before getting ready to go to Mighty Hoopla,” Coughlan wrote. “Thank you to all the Queer Icons and Real Housewives who have inspired me, I live for you. … Happy Pride.”
