“Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan releases debut pop song to benefit the LGBTQ community

“Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan celebrated Pride Month on Friday with the release of her first song – and donated the proceeds to LGBTQ+ charities Not a Phase and The Trevor Project.

The actress was apparently taken with the idea after music producer Ellis Miah sampled one of her answers from an interview with Hits Radio UK last month and made a viral remix of it on TikTok.

“You know when the Real Housewives release pop songs exclusively for gay men? That’s like my dream job,” Coughlan said in the interview.

“Because they’re not even really singing, they’re just listing things. They’re saying something like, ‘Shoes, private yachts, caviar – more shoes,'” she explained.

The actor was no doubt referring to “Real Housewives of New York City” star Luann de Lesseps, who used her reality TV fame to self-evolve – and released a song called “Chic, C’est La Vie” in which she lists luxury items such as “gems, jets… diamonds” and caviar.

Coughlin, who teamed up with Miah for an official version of his sample-packed TikTok hit, aptly titled it “Shoes…More Shoes.”

Coughlan recently attended the British music festival Mighty Hoopla – and is said to have improvised the lyrics before greeting fans.

“Like Lennon & McCartney, Dylan and the other great lyricists,” Coughlan joked on Instagram on Friday, “I wrote my first song by improvising a few voice messages to @ellismiah in the 30 minutes I had before getting ready to go to Mighty Hoopla.”

Elsewhere in the post, Coughlan thanked “the queer icons and real housewives” for her inspiration.

“I live for you,” she wrote, concluding with the words “Happy Pride.”

“Shoes…More Shoes” is streaming everywhere now.
