How does the Esports World Cup Club Championship work?

How does the Esports World Cup Club Championship work?

A complete breakdown of how the Club Championship works.

The Esports World Cup Club Championship is a crucial part of this year’s competition in Riyadh. This competition will determine the best “club” (organization) of the entire competition.

The club championship functions a bit like an Olympic medal table and has a huge prize pool of $20 million.

With so much at stake, the question is how the Esports World Cup Club Championship works. We’ll give you an overview.

Esports World Cup Club Championship explained

Eligibility

To qualify for the Esports World Cup Club Championship, organizations must meet two requirements:

  • To be eligible to participate in the Club Championship, a club must reach the top 8 in at least two competitions.
  • A club must finish first in at least one competition to be eligible to win the Club Championship and become the best club in the world. If the club with the most points does not do so, first place goes to the club that has accumulated the most points while meeting this requirement.

Have you been wondering why there was a flurry of organization announcements in mid-June? That’s because clubs can only earn points for participants who have publicly declared themselves part of the organization before the June 13, 2024, 11:59 p.m. AST deadline.

Point distribution

Each tournament at the Esports World Cup will provide the same number of points towards the championship, meaning that organizations that perform well in multiple games will be rewarded. This will result in organizations returning to esports or entering for the first time that they have not previously been involved in.

Additionally, it gives fans of an esports team a reason to follow the entire World Championship and not just their favorite titles. The Esports World Championship will have an overall winner, with one organization coming out on top.

Price Pool

The organizations are not just after fame. There is a whopping $20 million up for grabs. This will be split between the 16 best performing organizations. The winning organization alone will receive a whopping $7 million. That is game-changing money at a time of financial difficulty in the esports sector.

Is there a tiebreaker in the Esports World Cup Club Championship?

In the event of a tie, the following criteria will be decisive:

  • Results of the individual competitions – If a club has more first places in individual competitions, it wins the tiebreaker. If both are equal, the second places are taken into account and so on.
  • head to head – If a club has more points from head-to-head matches than the club(s) with which it is equal, it wins the tiebreaker.

In the event that clubs are tied on points in any position below first place, the money for that position will be split without the use of tiebreakers.
