Joey Chestnut is ready for the July 4 hot dog eating contest at Fort Bliss after Nathan’s ban
Competitive eater Joey Chestnut will bring his hot dog skills to Fort Bliss.
Chestnut, who fell out with organizers of the event that made him famous in Brooklyn, will compete against soldiers in a five-minute hot dog eating contest on Tuesday, July 4, the Associated Press reported.
The competition is a little different from Nathan’s typical 10-minute hot dog eating contest on July 4th. He has been competing with the world’s best eaters since 2005. In 2021, he set the current record of 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes.
The event is part of the Fourth of July celebration. The “Pop Goes the Fort” event includes fireworks and performances by the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and the 1st Armored Division Band.
Chestnut is expected to face off against his rival Takeru Kobayashi on Netflix in September.
He hopes to be able to compete again next year either on Netflix or in the Nathan’s Famous competition. To do this, he would have to come to terms with the organizer, Major League Eating.

Ban on Joey Chestnut
As the New York Post first reported, Chestnut will not be participating in the contest this year because he has a sponsorship deal with Impossible Foods. The company’s meat substitute is a competitor to Nathan’s Famous and is not approved by Major League Eating, the organization that sanctioned the contest.
