Women in the Gaza Strip are bearing the brunt of Israel’s ongoing war against Gaza, according to a UN report released this week.

According to the UN Women report, at least 557,000 women in the Gaza Strip are currently suffering from food insecurity.

According to the report, many women, especially mothers, often consider it more important to feed others and therefore forgo food.

The report notes that women in the devastated area are regularly forced to skip meals or reduce their food intake and give their portion of food to their children instead.

This puts their health at greater risk, leads to malnutrition and increases their exposure to gender-based violence, the report says.

About seven out of ten women in the Gaza Strip reported losing weight in the past 30 days; most of them suffered frequent dizziness.

More than 80 percent of UN Women respondents said that their main source of food security was food aid, but they also noted that the available aid was not adequately matched to family size.

Israel’s siege and bombing of the enclave has made women even more vulnerable. Pregnant and breastfeeding women have little or no access to adequate health care and nutrition.

The UN found that 76 percent of pregnant women suffer from anemia and 99 percent have difficulty obtaining nutritional supplements.

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, 495,000 people in the Gaza Strip are currently affected by catastrophic, acute food shortages.

The UN Women report calls for humanitarian access, services and treatments to prevent malnutrition and the restoration of production and markets.

As a result of the Israeli war against Gaza, at least 37,765 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the Gaza Strip since October, and at least 86,429 others have been injured during the same period.
