Beard Guyz Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

  • WHO: Plaintiff Michael Dilanyan has filed a class action lawsuit against Universal Beauty Products Inc., the manufacturer of Beard Guyz beard care products.
  • Why: Certain Beard Guyz products are allegedly falsely labeled as “natural” when they contain non-natural ingredients.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit against Beard Guyz was filed in federal court in California.

A recently filed class action lawsuit against Beard Guyz accuses the company of misleadingly labeling some of its beard care products as “natural” when they “contain numerous non-natural, synthetic, artificial and/or highly processed ingredients.”

Plaintiff Michael Dilanyan says Beard Guyz’s natural claims are designed to deceive consumers and give the company a competitive advantage over other sellers of beard care products. He says he relied on the company’s label and advertising claims in his decision to purchase beard care products.

Beard Guyz’s mislabeled natural products allegedly contain:

  • Beard 2-in-1 Wash & Tame
  • Beard Guyz Beard Wash
  • Beard Guyz Beard Oil
  • Beard Guyz Micro Mist Beard Oil
  • Beard Guyz Beard Serum
  • Beard Guyz Beard Conditioner
  • Beard Guyz Moustache Wax
  • Beard Guyz Styling Foam
  • Beard Guyz Beard Butter

According to the Beard Guyz class action lawsuit, each product’s label should state that it is “made with natural ingredients.”

Beard Guyz class action lawsuit: Natural claims target health-conscious consumers

Beard Guyz’s class action lawsuit points out that the natural cosmetics market has boomed in recent years. Globally, the natural cosmetics market was estimated to have sales of over $10 billion in 2018 and is expected to grow to over $48 billion by 2025.

According to Dilanyan, consumers value natural products for a number of reasons, including environmental awareness, health and wellness goals, financial support of companies that produce natural products, and perceived health benefits associated with natural products.

“Unfortunately, rather than creating the natural products consumers want, defendants have chosen to market the products through deceptive labeling and advertising to convince consumers that the products are natural when in reality they contain synthetic and artificial ingredients,” the Beard Guyz class action lawsuit states.

Had he known that the beard care products contained non-natural, synthetic, artificial and/or highly processed ingredients, Dilanyan would not have purchased them. However, he says he is interested in purchasing natural products from Beard Guys in the future when the company starts selling truly natural products.

The Beard Guyz class action lawsuit asserts claims for violations of California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, False Advertising Act, Unfair Competition Act, breach of express warranties, and unjust enrichment.

Other class action lawsuits have also targeted companies for allegedly falsely advertising their products as “natural.”
