Xolo Mariduena talks about his hopes for the animated series Blue Beetle

It was recently announced that a Blue Beetle DC Studios has an animated series in the works and now Jaime Reyes himself, Xolo Maridueña, is expressing some hopes for the series.

In the latest episode of Lonely Lobos The podcast began with Maridueña talking about the upcoming project.

“Wow, Blue Beetle is back! I’m so excited,” Maridueña said. “I think on any platform there’s an opportunity to really make something shine, right? In film, you had the opportunity to do the footage. In a TV show, you have the chance to do long-form stuff.”

Maridueña added, “In an animated series, this kid fucking likes anime and can make any weapon he wants and has this suit that lights up… If they get the suit right in the animated series, I wonder if it’s going to look the same as the suit in the movie or if, depending on the art style, it’s going to look a little bit different (or the same) because of the branding and all that.”

He has never explicitly said that he will return to voice the character, but the implications of his various comments seem to indicate that he will indeed be part of the project.

The Blue Beetle The film was released on August 18, 2023, and was generally well received, but failed to make much of an impression at the box office. DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn has expressed a desire to see Xolo Maridueña continue in the role of Jaime Reyes, but how that will be achieved has not been disclosed. If he signs on for the animated series, we would have our answer.

There is no information yet about a possible production schedule for the series.
