Tyler Childers unveils single “Song While You’re Away”

Tyler Childers has released a new single, “Song While You’re Away.” The country favorite’s latest release is his contribution to the upcoming film soundtrack and subsequent theatrical release. twister, will be released next month on July 19th by Universal Pictures. The new number deliberately focuses on the convergence of the artist’s talent for lyrical composition and instrumental splendor, coupled with the southern-tinged sensibilities that befit his Kentucky roots.

The upcoming iteration of Twisters is the standalone sequel to the 1996 thriller of the same name. The 2024 soundtrack, which hits theaters the same day as the film, features 29 tracks from a long list of acclaimed country artists, including Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Shania Twain and others. Also contributing to the soundtrack are Leon Bridges, who contributed “Chrome Cowgirl,” and Charlie Crockett’s take on the country western classic “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky.”

“Song While You’re Away” was written by Childers, who also incorporated his acoustic sounds into the melody composed for the film. Adding to the composition’s dynamics, a cornerstone of Childers’ musicianship, are contributors CJ Cain (acoustic/electric guitar), James Barker (pedal steel guitar), Jesse Wells (electric guitar/mandolin) and Kory Caudill (Hammond B3 organ/synthesizer), who support the big band feel that builds over the course of the five-minute piece.

The new number comes during a productive touring period for Childers, who will spend much of the coming weeks on the road with support from SG Goodman and Wayne Graham before a series of concerts with other featured artists in August. Relix Cover artist Allison Russell.
