Cyndi Lauper reveals which Taylor Swift album made her a fan

Cyndi Lauper remembers the moment she became a Swiftie.

The 71-year-old “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” icon spoke about her Taylor Swift fan base in a new interview with the BBC. The One Showand revealed which album made her aware of the work of the global pop superstar.

“Look, I like her,” Lauper told the outlet. “I think she’s great. As an artist, she writes some wonderful songs.”

The Grammy winner then described her introduction to Swift’s music. “I first started listening to her during the pandemic when she was hibernating and making this beautiful folk record,” she said, seemingly referring to the 2020 album. Folklore.

“It was wonderful,” Lauper added. “I’m proud of her.”

The two musicians have crossed paths in the past, as they have been photographed together at various award ceremonies. Swift also performed at Lauper’s virtual Home for the Holidays concert – shortly after the release of folklore.

Lauper praised the chart-topping album with the hits “Cardigan,” “Exile,” and “Willow” in a 2021 interview with Rolling Stone“She was always a wonderful writer, but this album was poetry,” she said at the time.

Swift is currently performing shows in Europe as part of her Eras Tour. At a recent performance at London’s Wembley Stadium, she was joined onstage by her boyfriend Travis Kelce during a costume change for “I Can Do It with a Broken Heart.”

“I’m still laughing my head off/blown away by @killatrav’s Eras tour debut 🥰 I’ll never forget these shows,” Swift wrote on Instagram afterwards.

Lauper, on the other hand, recently announced her major “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” farewell tour, a series of 23 arena concerts celebrating her decades-long career.

The “True Colors” artist’s first major tour as a headliner since 2013 begins on Friday, October 18th in Montreal and continues through North America until December 5th in Chicago.

In an interview with PEOPLE in October 2022, Lauper had already hinted at the idea of ​​a farewell tour. “Maybe I’ll go on tour again – and do it properly – and maybe headline,” she said at the time.
