dsm-firmenich and BESTMIX Software collaborate to unlock the value of sustainable feed production with SustellTM

dsm-firmenich, the leading innovator in health, nutrition and beauty, and BESTMIX Software, a leading provider of solutions for feed and pet food production, announce their strategic partnership to measure and manage the environmental footprint of pet food.

About a third of global greenhouse gas emissions come from food production. Companies along the feed and food value chain are increasingly being asked to measure, report and reduce their environmental footprint due to their own sustainability commitments, regulatory requirements and consumer preferences – which requires enormous amounts of data.

The partnership combines BESTMIX® feed formulation software with Sustell^TM Full life cycle analysis (LCA) platform that allows customers to easily create and share their feed footprint. This solution enables feed producers, who play a key role in enabling sustainable animal proteins, to report the environmental impact of their feed with the click of a button, leveraging existing data in their proven BESTMIX software suite. This integration supports feed producers to meet future feed labeling requirements, while also helping farmers accurately quantify the environmental impact of products such as eggs, meat, milk and farmed seafood.

This is an important step towards full transparency in the value chain and will help the entire food industry, including feed manufacturers, farmers, processors, food companies and retailers, to accurately report their emissions and improve their sustainability practices.

The ability to accurately measure and improve the environmental footprint through system connectivity helps unlock numerous value creation opportunities, such as in sustainable finance, eco-labelling, voluntary emissions trading and identifying best agricultural practices across species industries.
