Kentucky Baseball loses to Florida in 2024 College World Series

OMAHA, Nebraska — Kentucky had the momentum after the first inning and took a 1-0 lead in its College World Series elimination game against Florida, but then the Gators scored seven runs in the second half of the inning.

The Wildcats never recovered. And the Gators didn’t stop scoring runs in this all-SEC battle in the Midwest.

Florida eventually won 15-4, ending the season for Kentucky.

The lopsided loss caps what was – indisputably – the best season in program history. UK finished with a combined score of 46-16, setting a single-season record for wins. The Wildcats captured a share of the SEC regular-season title for only the second time ever, and they did so by setting another program record: most wins (22) in league games during the regular season.

Britain even reached second place in the national polls in 2024.

And that’s how it was when the NCAA tournament began.

The Wildcats made their first top-eight appearance at the event. They didn’t drop a game in the Lexington Regional, sweeping Western Michigan, Illinois and Indiana State. That form continued in the Super Regional – UK hosted this round for the first time – against Oregon State. UK swept the three-time national champions in the best-of-three series, taking a 10-0 win in Game 1 and escaping with a 3-2 win in Game 2.

After its debut in Omaha, Kentucky made a dramatic debut in the College World Series, hitting a walk-off home run in the 10th inning off Mitchell Daly to defeat NC State. However, UK had no answer in the next game, losing to Texas A&M.
