Cause of death of lead singer of successful band announced

The cause of death of Seth Binzer aka Shifty Shellshock, lead singer of the band Crazytown, has been announced.

According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, Binzer was found dead in his apartment on Monday.

According to band spokesman Howie Hubberman, the cause of death was an accidental drug overdose.

“Seth Binzer never managed to overcome his addiction on a more successful level with ‘Butterfly’ after his battle with addiction and the quick success of Crazy Town,” Hubberman told People. “We all tried, but ultimately we all failed, otherwise Shifty would still be here.”

“The cause of death was a combination of prescription drugs and drugs bought on the street,” he continued. “Shifty was a friend and was desperate to heal himself – unfortunately no one had the right tools to do that, including me.”

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not yet released Bizner’s cause of death pending toxicology results.

“Seth was not happy with the daily struggle called life. Some people cope in many different ways,” Hubberman said in a separate statement. “It is unfortunate that we lose so many people to addiction and access to harmful drugs. Shifty was a true tragedy. Too fast, too hard, too soon.”

Binzer and Bret Mazur formed Crazytown in 1999. The band’s song, “Butterfly,” from their debut album The Gift of Game, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in a row in 2000 and was the band’s biggest and best-known song.

Crazytown disbanded in 2002 and Shellshock pursued a solo career, collaborating with Paul Oakenfold on the song “Starry Eyed Surprise” and releasing the album “Happy Love Sick” in 2004, Variety reported.

He later appeared in two seasons each of the VH1 reality shows “Celebrity Rehab” and “Sober House.”

In 2023, Binzer got into an argument with his Crazytown bandmate Bobby Reeves after a show in South Carolina. A few days later, he was arrested for drunk driving.
