3 candidates for the breakthrough in Michigan State football’s offense after spring 2024

With the spring season long behind them, Michigan State football fans are gearing up for an important summer that will usher in the Jonathan Smith era.

It’s hard to believe that the Spartans are already on their second head coach since Mark Dantonio retired, but Smith actually exudes a similar aura to the Michigan State legend. He recruits people who fit his system rather than chasing stars. He’s also honest and direct about everything. He’s also known for turning programs around.

I think we’ll see that early on, especially when these guys go on offense.

This seems like a pretty interesting choice, as Michigan State is signing one of the best tight ends in the country in Jack Velling, but Brennan Parachek will benefit from learning under Brian Wozniak and his new teammate from Oregon State.

No, I’m not saying he’ll take Velling’s place, as I believe the Oregon State transfer has the potential to be a first-team All-Big Ten selection, but I do believe he will benefit from the new situation.

Before Velling and Wozniak, it felt like Parachek was let down by the coaching staff, but now that he’s stuck it out, he’s getting rewarded. Plus, there’s a reason he was so highly touted in the 2023 recruiting class. He’s going to step up and play a really solid role and put up some serious numbers as the No. 2 tight end this season.

What would I consider a “breakthrough” for Parachek? Maybe something like 300 yards and three touchdowns.
